A real treat for Durbanites


Today, more than ever, family and friends are dispersed across the globe with technology being the primary facet keeping them connected. With this in mind, a group of KZN-born friends, have worked together to conceptualise a mobile phone application (App) that allows people to easily treat their loved ones on those special occasions, at the simple click of a button. The brainchild of Bryan Pietersen, a cocktail bar owner in London and a global Food & Beverage consultant, together with celebrated England cricketer Kevin Pietersen, and local businessmen Sahil Sewpersad and Marc Rosenberg, MiTreat will be officially launched to the Durban market on 27th November, just in time for the festive season.
Available through the Google Play Store or the Apple Store, MiTreat is a platform in which you can treat friends or family to a drink or a meal in 5 easy steps; select the recipient, the location, their favourite restaurant or bar, select a product and finally make payment. It also gives you the opportunity to personalise your message to the recipient, as well as ensure their safe journey home with Uber.

“With my brother and I both having lived in the UK for a number of years, we really do know first-hand how difficult it can be to spoil your loved ones, especially at the last minute. We created MiTreat so that you can still treat friends to that Friday afternoon drink, or your mom and dad to that anniversary meal at their favourite restaurant; by simply logging on to an App,” explains Bryan Pietersen. He continues, “The App is 100% responsive, so as soon as a treat is purchased, it is sent to the recipient who can then immediately redeem it from the restaurant or bar that he has been sent a voucher for.” Having taken a year to conceptualise, develop and test, MiTreat is a first for South Africa, with plans to launch nationally in the New Year. Durban restaurants have welcomed the concept, with the likes of The Oyster Box, Little Havana, Pinxada, Spiga, The George, and Ray’s Kitchen, amongst others, already on board.

What better way for a venue to get more bums on seats. Pietersen confirms, “The use of the App costs nothing extra for the user or the recipient. It really is user- friendly, and appeals to people of all ages. We are delighted that our idea has finally become a reality for people to enjoy.”
